Dear Runners & Tuggers,
We so greatly appreciate your support in registering to attend the Big Trail & Tug event this Sunday, September 17th. We wanted you to be of the first to know that our Camp Hooray property sustained serious damage during Tropical Storm Irma. We need your help now, more than ever. With limbs and trees down on the property, it is no longer accessible or safe for the ESP community. We determined it is necessary to shift the mission of our event for Sunday:
The damage was very much an unexpected expense for ESP as we continue to provide affordable, quality programming to our families and children with disabilities. Conservative estimates for the damage start at $30,000. The funds raised through the event were meant to support year-round programs for ESP, but now must also cover property restoration.
1) Right now, ESP’s most urgent need is for funds for professional help. Please help spread the word for people to contribute financially by visiting our recovery fundraising page HERE! If you are on a tug team, you can also to push donations on your team pages that will direct towards the recovery efforts.
2) We are cancelling the running and tugging portions of Sunday, but invite you to still come out on Sunday to aide in the clean-up efforts on the property. Our efforts will shift from the joy of competing in a run or tug for a great cause, to banding together as a community of supporters to clear limbs and make paths accessible once more. We are asking that all volunteers be 18 years of age or older as there will also be heavy machinery and equipment on site as well. We are also stressing for skilled volunteers and volunteers who have equipment for Sunday and will have opportunities for less skilled volunteers in the future. To volunteer Sunday or in the weeks to come, contact Tommy Valentine at email@example.com.
Thank you for your support and flexibility with these unexpected turn of events.
